Keysight (formerly Agilent T&M) 41420A Source Monitor Unit

The HP 41420A Source/Monitor Unit (High Power SMU: HPSMU) is a plug-in unit for the 4142B Modular DC Source/Monitor. The 41420A can force and measure up to +/-200 V or +/-1 A (maximum power: 14 W).
The SMU functions in either of the following two modes:

• V source (constant or pulse) and I monitor
• I source (constant or pulse) and V monitor

In High speed spot measurements, Analog search measurements, and Quasi-pulsed spot measurements, the SMU functions in the following two modes in addition to the above two modes:

• V source (constant only) and V monitor
• I source (constant only) and I monitor

The SMU includes a compliance feature that limits output or current to prevent damage to your device. When the SMU forces voltage, you can specify I compliance. When the SMU forces current, you can specify V compliance. You can specify V or I compliance with the same resolution as the output voltage or current within the maximum output.

  • 2 V: +/-1 A
  • 20 V: +/-1 A, +/-700 mA
  • 40 V: +/-350 mA
  • 100 V: +/-125 mA
  • 200 V: +/-50 mA
  • 1 nA – 100 mA: +/-200 V, +/-100 V
  • 1 A: +/-200 V, +/-100 V, +/-40 V, +/-20 V, +/-14 V
• Pulse parameters (Note: For current pulse, the pulse base current and pulse current must have the same polarity.)
  • Pulse width: 1 ms to 50 ms, 100 microsec resolution
  • Pulse period: 10 ms to 500 ms, 100 microsec resolution
  • Maximum pulse duty (pulse width / pulse period): 50%
  • 2 V output range: 10 nA to 1 A measurement range
  • 20 V to 200 V output range: 100 microA to 1 A measurement range
  • 10 nA to 10 microA output range: 2 V measurement range
  • 100 microA to 1 A output range: 2 V to 200 V measurement range
