Calibration Technician – Senior Level

Tra-Cal Lab, a growing company that has been in business for over 28 years is looking for good calibration and repair technicians.

Primary job of the calibration technician is to calibrate, repair, and maintain testing equipment used in a wide variety of industrial and military applications. This equipment includes AC/DC, RF Microwave, Impedance, Light wave, and physical dimensional.

Uses theories of operation, block diagrams, schematics, pictorial drawings, logic trees, and software diagnostics. Analyzes complex and usual maintenance problems. Traces circuits and isolate malfunctions in the testing equipment. Performs preventative maintenance, cleanliness and safety requirements. Performs equipment maintenance using hand tools, special tools, high reliability soldering techniques and technical data. Overhauls and modifies assemblies and subassemblies.

Ensures equipment operational accuracy by performing laboratory and on-site calibrations. Uses laboratory working standards, reference standards to certify equipment accuracy and can align/adjust testing equipment to listed technical specifications.  Certifies equipment accuracy to technical data specifications. Prepares and uses calibration correction charts. Records data from equipment and testing ensuring the proper data is recorded in the lab database.

Assists in the management of databases for automated information management system.  Records testing data and properly attaches data to equipment certifications or other documentation. Helps to evaluate and develop calibration and maintenance procedures, technical data verification, and operational test and evaluation of new equipment.  Resolves logistical issues with the handling and shipment of equipment. Evaluates procedures for storing, inventorying, and inspecting property. Resolves production problems. Maintains equipment, tools, parts, and supplies. Analyzes and interprets trends. Recommends corrective actions. Provides technical and training assistance to lab manager.

Assists in the planning of workload, budgeting, support agreements, special reports, environmental concerns, and equipment traceability.

Handles, labels, and dispose of hazardous material according to local/state/federal regulations. Follows safety work practices according to state/federal regulations. Can communicate with customers verbally and in written communications in English.  Follows Quality System Manual and ISO guidelines outlined in documentation. Experience level is <3 years in lab environment. Needs basic and advanced electronics courses at college level or military equivalent.

Requirements:

Qualified candidates will meet the following requirements:  *A minimum of 5 years technical and lab experience * Operation Certification using ISO/IEC 17025-2005 * Integral understanding of Test and Measurement Equipment (T&ME) * Completion of AA college degree in Electronic and/or Metrology or equivalent military training and certifications *  Experience in the Frequency Spectrum (DC to 50 GHz), Optical and Physical Dimension preferred, but some training is available* Knowledge of computers * Working knowledge of  T&ME-specific tools * Exceptional communication and language skills and customer interfacing experience * Goal-oriented * Self-motivation * Team player * Strong work ethic.

Responsibilities:

  • Calibrate Industrial and Military Electronic T&ME to manufacturer’s specifications
  • Calibrate to the standards of ISO/IEC 17025-2005 and ANSI-Z540
  • Repair of T&ME using theory of operation and block diagrams
  • Repair to the component level
  • Analyze complex and routine maintenance of T&ME
  • Trace circuits and troubleshoot T&ME
  • Input calibration data into Fluke Metcal record management database
  • Evaluate and develop calibration and maintenance procedures
  • Accurately record and verify testing data and results
  • Assist lab manager in planning, budgeting, training, scheduling shipment of equipment and support documentation
  • Excellent attention to detail.

Senior Sales Engineer

NSCA & Tra-Cal Lab, located in Gaithersburg MD, is currently seeking a full-time, local Senior Sales Engineer for the DC Metro region.  Base salary and bonus commission is based on experience.  Retirement plans, health insurance, advancement opportunities and much more.

Summary:

The Senior Sales Engineer plays a key role in the evolution and success of both NSCA Technologies and Tra-Cal Labs. This position is instrumental in the strategic business development, tactical sales initiatives, and customer relationship development of the organization.

The primary functions and responsibilities of the Sales Engineer are as follows:

  • Support Geographic and Product Line Expansion
  • Perform “Inside Sales”
  • Perform “Outside Sales” and “Account Development”
  • Strategic Sales Plan Development and Execution
  • Support the Development of a New Sales Paradigm
  • Manage Customer Expectations & Ensure Customer Satisfaction

The Senior Sales Engineer’s ultimate responsibility is forecasting and delivering new orders. The duties and responsibilities of the above elements are defined in the following section.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support New Business Development – Assist the General Manager in guiding the business toward long-term growth, including evaluating and selecting new market areas and/or product lines to add to our emerging portfolio.
  • Perform “Inside Sales” – As appropriate, to facilitate base business.
  • Perform “Outside Sales” and “Account Development” – To solidify existing relationships, build new relationships with strategic accounts, and identify potential new market opportunities. Serve as the Point of Contact (POC) for our most strategic accounts, engage the company leaders, and drive deeper penetration of our business into selected accounts.
  • Strategic Sales Plan Development and Execution – Determine strategies and tactics for interfacing with optimal customers, accounts, and geographical areas. Establish key account plans focused on penetrating strategic accounts, with contractual, revenue, and exclusivity goals.
  • Support the Development of a New Sales Paradigm – Explore and develop an optimal selling model to support the growth of NSCA Technologies and Tra-Cal Labs. Design and evolve the necessary business processes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Manage Customer Expectations & Ensure Customer Satisfaction – Proactively seek and understand our customer’s needs, actively set and manage their expectations, and ensure that our end result meets or exceeds their expectations. Constructively act upon any shortcomings by engaging people across the customer and NSCA/Tra-Cal organizations to resolve any open issues.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Territory Management – The Senior Sales Engineer will be assigned an initial territory for Outside Sales. This will be reevaluated periodically for feasibility of coverage, successful penetration, and to optimize the emerging Sales Paradigm.
  • Key Account Management – The Senior Sales Engineer will be assigned and/or targeted with key accounts to penetrate and manage the evolution of our business. The Sales Engineer will serve as the primary POC for that account set and will be responsible for developing and executing key account plans.
  • External Partner Management – The Senior Sales Engineer may be assigned a set of rep firms to sign, engage regularly, and cultivate into a new business model.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A Masters Degree is preferred, and a Bachelor’s Degree (or a combination of education and significant career equivalent work experience) is required in a related Technical or Business discipline.
  • Experience: Ten or more years of career-level experience in industry, with seven or more of those years in Sales or Sales Leadership roles, showing progressive growth of responsibility and business results.
  • Practical understanding and working knowledge of general purpose test equipment. Ability to perform a level of consultation to our customers, and engage help where candidate is still developing.
  • Certification: Successful completion of sales training course(s).
  • Communication & Customer Interfacing Experience: Significant customer interface experience is required, along with excellent written/verbal communication skills, and presentation skills.
  • Other: Candidate must be a strong self-starter, drive themselves to achieve the goals of the job, display and use good judgment and positive interpersonal skills at all times.
  • Customers: Must know how to penetrate customer organizations to obtain new work. Must have an existing customer base in the Washington DC area.
