Advantages of Renting, Leasing, and Buying

Whether you’re working on an R&D project, have an emergency or are simply unsure of the technological life or future need for equipment, then NSCA’s month-to-month rental program may be right for you.  We offer competitive rates without a long-term commitment.  If you would like to own the equipment, but don’t have the capital available for purchase, we offer a lease-to-own option.  Typical lease terms are 24 to 60 months.

Renting

Renting entails a short-term agreement or contract to use capital equipment monthly, with the rental rate decreasing as the term lengthens. In addition to a reduced financial investment, the benefits of renting include the ease of procuring equipment, shorter terms and fewer financing restrictions. Also, there’s less responsibility for repairs or maintenance, and the firm can take advantage of a current year tax deduction. As well as preserve upfront capital for emergencies or other priorities because it is only responsible for paying for the time the machine is actually being used. Contractors also can try a machine before buying it, with monthly rent credited to the purchase price.

Leasing

Leasing involves a long-term agreement or contract to use capital equipment for a year or more at a specified rate. Leasing offers many of the same cash flow and financing benefits as renting. Contractors also can take a current year tax deduction as a business expense, except in the case of a capital lease, in which the property is subject to tax depreciation rules. Improved asset liquidity and the ability to test equipment before purchasing it (lease-to-buy) are additional advantages.

Credit Application

Buying

Unlike renting or leasing, buying equipment enables organizations to own it outright and use it as they please because it is paid for in full through cash, financing or a combination. Overall, purchasing equipment enhances profitability because it is less expensive in the long run, especially for established businesses that can plan for equipment longevity. Ultimately, the buyer controls how the equipment is used and maintained.
